Me and my Fiancee just bought our 1st house and our having trouble decorating b/c we have an idea of how we would like our house to look but cant quite get it there. Please help. We want of course a modern look-were in our mid-late 20's. So we wanna look modern, not too girly and Sharp! We have a black plasma sitting on a low black table (specifcally to hold plasmas) We have a natural wood floor. (just refinished) And we paiting the living room a really light grey-we figured its a neutrl color. We have a big sliding door inthe living room that leads to the back yard-we would like to put curtains-the issue is Im trying to get a look where is dark @night and bright@day. Im not sure if we should buy furniture 1st -then the curtains or how do we even start off decorating.? Any suggestions or websites?

I recommend investing in a bunch of decorating (and other type) magazines. As you leaf through, tear out anything that appeals to you--color, style, furniture, room decor, etc.

As you assemble them, you'll start to notice certain trends of what you like.

Go to open houses in your area to check out how other people do their homes. Don't worry, this is a common practice.

And there are myriad decorating sites to explore. Go with what you love, not what's trendy.

if you want a modern and not girlie look, then Id go with roman blinds and scrap the idea of curtains altogether. you can get them in various shades of bamboo to match the wood floor or in a color complimentary to your grey walls; like sage green or brick red.
