Default Need decorating help for my home...?

ok, hopefully this works. i have a wall/area in my home that i need to fill. but its kinda awkward and i don't know if filling it with framed portraits is appropriate or not. see, the spots needing filled are up high. i'm going to attatch the link to a photo of the wall i'm trying to decorate. hopefully it works?!?!
the areas in question are to the right and left of the fireplace above the windows.
they are big blank holes, but do they look ok blank or should i put something up there. i have two big framed portraits of my hubby and i from our wedding but i thought art/framed photos are supposed to be at eye level. just any ideas would help. thanks.

The bookcases are in the wrong place. They make the arrangement too heavy, which makes the wall space above look naked to you.
Move the book cases to the outside of the windows, or possibly to another wall altogether.

If you are still in the moving in stage I wouldn't do anthing yet. You have lots of time to think of ideas, which may turn out to be different than your thoughts today.

Give it time. What's the big rush. I will often make a purchase and it will sit until I have a solution. Or I may have something around the house I want to use. Until an ideal place hits me it will continue to sit.

The rule of thum is eye level, but that isn't always the case.

I put two shelves up above a set of three windows. One shelf on the right, other shelf on the left of the three windows. On one shelf I put a large decoy and the other shelf has decoy bookends with books. Will never get tyred of looking at them. They found their place.

I don't use window coverings because I don't want to loose one inch of the view out my windows over looking the small lake we live on or the wildlife that comes to visit. Besides we don't need window coverings. No one can see in. Sure am happy I don't have to mess with window coverings.

Your idea sounds great, especially of you and your husbands wedding pictures. So no, everything doesn't have to be eye level. It's about what you like, not "House Beautiful."

I'm still thinking (long time now) about the wall that I'll be puttinig our wildlife prints on. Getting real close to start putting them up.

Sit back, relax in your favorite chair and give it some thought. It will come.

I think what makes the room awkward is the two shelving units. The windows are at a funny place personally too. If the shelving units are removable I would definately go with trying to get those out and replacing them wil smaller ones about half the size. This would then cause the space above those windows to be less of an empty space for you yet also allowing you to fill in those gaps just above the smaller shelving units with those framed portraits! This will allow it also to be at a more eye-level so everyone can see! Hope this helps. Good luck!

The "weight " of the fireplace, bookshelves and windows are out of proportion to each other. Knowing the overall size of the room would help some.
You might try what Julie said about the half height shelves. Another idea (if you like "heavy" draperies) would be to place ceiling to floor drapes on the windows, swagging then as if they opened in the middle of the fireplace wall. This would help to balance the "weight" of the entire wall.
I would not try to decorate above the windows. This is not an area that is normally a focal point.
If you have a printer, print off the picture a few times. Using markers, draw in different ideas till something strikes you.
