My 13 year old daughter wants to paint her bedroom totally white. She is very arty and good at art too! and she wants to do her own designs with stencils etc. on the walls. Does anyone have any ideas where we can buy large stencils from for this kind of thing and what paint we use - is there a special type? Many thanks

I'd try ebay they have everything now days.

They sell stencil blanks at craft stores, and you can search online for sources. The best paint I have found for kids rooms is regular wall paint, so it is washable, and you can get the quart sizes tinted to any color you want! I suggest you use a stencil adheasive that will reall help with the paint bleeding under the stencil. And practice on some poster board first! It will really help. Good luck. You can easily make your own stencils using plastic or card.

Use Acryllic paints for the stencil work, and a stencil brush.

when I was your daughter's age my parrents let me do what your suggesting. I didn't use stencles I just drew in pencle what I wanted to paint and then just painted using acrylic paints. Later I also did some work in oil pastels and with an airbrush when I was about 18.
any acrylic paints work well on wall surfaces, if she really likes the stencle idea then thick bristol board, a cutting board and an exacto knife should work pretty good to make your own. Craft stores would have pre-cut stencles.
I find spraypaint and airbrushes are great for stencles, or acrylic paint and brush or sponge.
If she gets bored of what she does it's pretty easy to sand the wall and put a coat of white over the area she wants to change. Mr. Clean eraser will get off pretty much everything including oil pastel.
I moved out a couple years ago but my parents never had the heart to paint over what I did, and I'm now in school to be an animator so I think they're glad they encouraged my love of art.

Great idea with the stencils. There's usually a good selection in DIY stores. I've also seen stencil-making kits with special card and craft knives.

In my son's room we reserved one area of wall and did a large circle of blackboard paint so he/we could chalk messages on it. So that area is infinitely changeable.

Just make sure the white is washable....

Bold colors in trendy patterns seem all the rage. My teenager loves the loud bedspreads with swirls of colors. A couple of accent pillows in interesting materials and shapes are great to add, as well as a lamp with a solid shade that brings out one of the lesser emphasized colors in the bedspread pattern. If the walls need some attention you can easily paint square canvases a solid color to hang as a block of attention for the wall. A french memory board (material covered boards with ribbon & buttons to hold pictures & papers in place) is also great to have. We found some great ones at Target..........
