Default I am removing old paint and wall paper glue from a bathroom wall.?

I am currently using a 1/4 sheet sander but was thinking a belt sander would be a better choice. Is the belt sander the way to go or stick with the tried and true 1/4 sheet sander? Or does anyone have a better suggestion. The old paint does not have to be completely removed but I need to make the edges smooth for painting.
Thanks.
jd
