i live in a single family home that has a separate heating/ac unit for the 1st floor/basement and the 2nd floor. the bottom floors use gas and the 2nd floor uses a heat pump.

anyways, i'm usually at work or out so i'm not home very much so my heater/ac is usually off. when i am home, i'm usually in my room. is it cheaper for me to just use a portable heater for the room i'm in? or is it cheaper to return the portable heater and just use the 2nd floor heat even though i'm only using one room?

the portable heater is 750/1500 watts by Lasko.

Portable heater is always cheaper. A rule of thumb is to check the Wattage and compare. It's usually the wattage per hour.

Oh wait you said gas right? then the unit of comparison is Btu's. hmm how to determine that...

i think using the portable heater in your room is more efficient option for you.

My oil furnace went out and I used nothing but portable heaters. They are great as a supplement for one room but using them instead of a whole house system is a very bad idea. My electric bill has been outrageous.
