my house? I am trying to decide what sort of roof to put on my house. Its an old house, in good shape, and will soon need its roof replaced. I have been looking at various options, like this one here:

This roof is supposed to be warranted for 50 years. Its almost like you never have to think about replacing it. Has anyone had a roof like this? Or do you know about these materials? I am just wondering if they are as long lasting as people say they are. They're twice the price of a conventional roof (with regular shingles) but I don't mind spending the cash if it really is what it says it is. I have seen a couple of roofs like this in my area and they certainly look great.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We had our roof replaced back in the fall of 2003. The Roofer (that's what he's called) gave us several products & styles to choose from. We chose an Arcitechtural Shingle made by Tamko (see link below). They have a variety of styles and grades of shingle. They are installed much the same as a traditional shingle and the look is fantastic, we are very happy with ours.

edit: The neighbors were so impressed with the quality of the product and the roofers as well, that at least 10 homes got new roofs after they were finished with ours.
