Default When the contractor brings EnergyStarWindows to install, should they have

all the stickers of a store window? Our contractor dropped off to-be-installed windows with very little information on them - just a generic white sticker with factory codes. Can these be the low-e, argon windows we ordered? There are no Energystar stickers on them, like the windows in Lowes. The factory is right down the road in Durham (we're in Raleigh). Also, they had half-screens, unlike the full screens we ordered. How can we verify the order is correct? Thanks.

Ask your contractor for the warranty certificate which comes with the product. It will have the name of the manufacturer and you can call and ask where a showroom is that has a sample of the product which you can inspect. If the contractor cannot produce the certificate, then ask him to direct you to the wholesaler or manufacturer where he bought the product, so that you can go get your own warranty certificate. Also have him to write in his contract or invoice the brand name and that they are argon filled. This way if something doesn't check out, you have something to use for recourse or for reporting to the Better Business Bureau if that becomes necessary.

This sounds not like what you ordered. I would return them. All of the good windows and even some of the cheap ones have more than just the UPC codes on them. There should be something there that states they are Energy Star Windows, but with the screens being wrong size I would send them back.

If you had a contractor purchase them, check ALWAYS with your local Better Business Office (BBB) this way you will know if others have had problems with the contractor. If he is a good contractor he should have given you all the papers that came with the windows including warranty papers.
