my lodger has cleaned out her microwave on top of my new wooden kitchen surface?
what i can only imagine to be globbules of grease have stained the kitchen top she has tried to rectify this by rubbing the effected area with diluted domestos which has smudged the mark deeper into the wood any ideas what i can use to remove this stain
I heard that fizzy water helps lift the stain, but I have never tried it. We have a brushed and oiled solid wood floor and any marks, scratches and stains are removed by rubbing a brazil nut on it.
I'm guessing that this is open grain "oiled" wood and not sealed and I am afraid to say the only way to get it out is to sand it down to virgin timber again. Wood is not practical as a worktop if you want it looking beautiful it has to be sealed or coated with epoxy resin
You could try staining the whole thing a darker color, but basically, it's a kitchen and there are going to be splashes and spills in the ordinary run of day to day use. So stop imagining that it's going to look new forever......
